New Safety Officials for Cuyahoga County

52 Year old Clifford Pinkney would be the first black sheriff if approved by Council. He served as chief deputy under Sheriff Frank Bova and said he would continue Bova’s philosophy and programs to modernize the department, which manages a number of city and county jails.

"I would like to get a regional Director of Corrections in place as soon as possible to help with our correctional facilities as well as looking at trying to create a new program for reentry of our inmates.”

Sherif Bova will be promoted to a new position that Armond Budish calls the Chief Community Safety and Protection Officer.

“This new position will oversee the Sheriff’s Department, the Clerk of Courts, the Medical Examiner Office, The Community Safety Department, and the Consumer Protection Office.”

Budish says the new position will make the county government “more effective and efficient."

"I believe that, by the way, this will be an ongoing process, not something that just is completed in weeks or months but something that we’ll continue to look at throughout the administration. And we’ve talked to experts in organizational structure to help us do this and will continue.”

Budish said one looming job for the chief safety officer will be to coordinate security plans with the Secret Service for the Republican National Convention next year.
