According to her family and friends, Shaylona Williams had a lot in common with other teenage girls.
She loved to sing. She doted on her dog, Rocky. The holidays were her favorite time of the year.
Basheer Jones got to know Williams when she participated in a leadership program he ran at Cleveland's Martin Luther King High School. He says she wanted to be a nurse.
"She had dreams of wanting to do some amazing things in this world," Jones said. "She wasn't a person that was involved with anything that would warrant this type of behavior. She wasn't in the streets, she wasn't engaged in those type of activities."
Kyle Earley, a pastor at the east side church where Williams' service was held, says the tragedy has left lingering questions.
"Why would something like this happen, how could something like this happen, and when are people going to speak up so that individual can be brought to justice," he said.
Earley adds that on Wednesday, his church plans to host another funeral--this time, for Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old boy fatally shot by a Cleveland police officer last weekend.
